Th. Pettersson is a hair salon with a long history –it was first established in 1920 as a barber shop and later converted into a hair salon and it has been in business in the same building since the beginning. Lycka Reklam has refreshed their brand identity for them in the past and now they asked them for a large-scale poster that would showcase their history in the city of Turku. I had the opportunity to illustrate this poster, which was really special.

The client wished that the poster would have a light atmosphere, a hand drawn feel and that it would show well known landmarks of Turku as well as their profession in the design. To best create the hand drawn effect I used Procreate to illustrate. In order to achieve the best hand-drawn effect, I utilized Procreate for the illustration process. The largest landmark in Turku is the Aura river, which streams through the center of the city and has many of the known landmarks running along it. I pitched to do a map type illustration, where the river is simplified and folded in a cheeky way - loosely mimicking the shape of the Aura river and placing the landmarks along it in the "correct place". To bring the hair salon aspect into the design I made the Aura river flowing golden hair instead of water and used the brand colours dark green, gold, black and white as a limited colour palette. I highlighted the building that the hair salon has been located at since 1920 called "the Panther house" in gold to match the golden river hair. To bring the name of the building more alive, I illustrated a black panther to guard the building. This 1500 x 750 mm poster is now hanging on the salon wall.
